On Thursday night, May 29, 2025, a wrongful death accident occurred on Route 22 in Hanover Township, Northampton County, resulting in the tragic death of a passenger. The crash happened at approximately 9:36 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the Route 512 exit, according to Bethlehem-based Pennsylvania State Police. A Mercedes-Benz, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, attempted to pass a Ford Escape in the right lane, sideswiping the vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes lost control and slammed into a tree off the highway. The passenger in the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem. The Ford came to a stop in the left lane, and no injuries were reported from that vehicle. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and a reconstruction investigation is ongoing. The road was closed for several hours overnight.
